10 New Songs to Start Off Your Week (6/29)

1. A$AP Ferg, "Verified"

Ferg dropped a pair of new singles this week, but "Verified" is the stronger of the pair. With a delivery that recalls the most aggressive of A$AP Mob tracks and a hook that's as catchy as "Plain Jane," Ferg knocks it out of the park with this one. 

2. XYLØ, "Don't Panic"

You may remember XYLØ from "Setting Fires," their mildly successful collaboration with The Chainsmokers. On "Don't Panic" the alternative pop duo bounces over the production with playful production and disarming lyrics. 

3. Popcaan, "Firm and Strong"

Popcaan is famous for his dancehall anthem, but on "Firm and Strong" he weaves against lightweight electronic bass and a choir. Popcaan laments about hardships in his personal life with a different level of maturity that we've seen before. 

4. Florence + the Machine, "Patricia"

Their new album is otherworldly, but "Patricia" is the strongest song. Florence sounds ethereal on this stunning tribute to Patti Smith, and the first verse is pure magic. 

5. Drake, "Emotionless"

That Mariah Carey sample is everything. Drake is at his most vulnerable and visceral on this track and everything works together perfectly. Read my full review of Scorpion here. 

6. Drake, "After Dark (feat. Static Major & Ty Dolla $ign)"

Found on the R&B side of Scorpion, this track is the perfect soundtrack to whatever your after-dark activities are. It's emotional and sexy at the same time, but somehow it works. 

7. Years & Years, "All For You"

This electronic trio has been killing it with every song from their upcoming album so far, and this explosive and anthemic track is no exception. 

8. Meek Mill, "Stay Woke (feat. Miguel)"

On his first post-prison musical release, Meek goes the social justice route, but it has a different gravitas coming from a rapper who lived through the whole ordeal. It's raw and inspiring, give it a few good listens. 

9. John Coltrane, "Untitled Original 11383 (Take 1)"

Jazz may be the single greatest genre of music and this is the proof. 

10. The Score, "Glory"

Somewhere between Fall Out Boy and Imagine Dragons, you'll find The Score. "Glory" sounds like a rock anthem, and it's a great introduction to this band.
