Florida Does Not Need Your Thoughts and Prayers

The tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, marks the eighteenth school shooting in the United States in 2018. The Parkland shooting is already among the top ten deadliest mass shootings in modern American history.

Let’s get straight to the point, you (American politicians and the like) can all throw your thoughts and prayers into the latest trash can. You sent thoughts and prayers after Las Vegas, you sent them after Orlando, you sent them after Virginia Tech, and you sent them after Sandy Hook. Where is the action? America’s children, the future of our country, are being gunned down on a daily basis because of our ridiculous gun laws.

There is absolutely no reason why mass shootings are a near daily occurrence. No other country in the world suffers from this, our politicians and government officials have allowed this to happen. The blood of these innocent lives is on the hands of those who allow the legal purchase of these weapons. Weapons that are capable of this level of destruction should not be so easily attainable. The system needs reform at all levels. What guns are being sold? Who is doing the selling? Who is allowed to purchase these guns and how do we monitor that? These are the questions that we need to be asking and finding answers to.

We need tougher gun legislation. Every time this happens we say “enough is enough,” when is our government finally going to effect real change?
